Piers Morgan mocks Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag pointing out Cristiano Ronaldo’s importance after 2-0 defeat

Piers Morgan has once again roasted Manchester United boss Erik Ten Haag. He pointed out a stark difference between the last campaign and the current one, highlighting Cristiano Ronaldo’s significance.

Piers Morgan has been critical of Erik ten Hag’s decision to oust Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United. After the Red Devils were defeated by Newcastle United, the pundit took another dig at the former Ajax boss.

Manchester United’s chances of qualifying in the top four were dashed on Sunday as they were defeated 2-0 by Newcastle United. After earning a single point in the last three games, they now lie fourth in the standings, equal on points with the Magpies.

Joe Willock celebrates with his Newcastle teammates after his breakthrough goal against Manchester United

The game started well for Newcastle when Joe Willock opened the scoring in the 65th minute. He was assisted from close range by Allan Saint-Maximin who had received a wonderful cross from Bruno Guimarães. A goal from substitute Callum Wilson then sealed the game in the 88th minute with a wonderful header from a Kieran Trippier free kick.

What did Piers Morgan tweet about the Manchester United manager?

Piers Morgan took to Twitter after the game to remember old comments from Ten Hag, claiming that the Dutchman may be reconsidering trading Ronaldo for Wout Weghorst. He wrote on Twitter, “Methinks Ten ‘I prefer Weghorst up front to Ronaldo’ Hag might need a few ambien tonight…”

He also shared another tweet that had a statement of Ten Haag saying he trusts Weghorst’s abilities. It said, ‘Apart from.. *checks notes*…. scoring goals.’

Piers Morgan has been continually criticizing Erik ten Hag this season because he was dissatisfied with how the manager handled his friend, Cristiano Ronaldo. The pundit has been a long-time admirer of the Portuguese striker and an ardent supporter.

In fact, he had hosted an interview with the five-time Balon d’Or winner. In the interview, Ronaldo lambasted both the Manchester United hierarchy and Erik Ten Haag. He was soon let go by the English club for his interview.

Earlier this season, he rejected assertions that the Red Devils were on the correct track. He claimed that they were doing nothing exceptional.

On talkSPORT, he stated, “I’ve been watching it all. They’ve been beating a few teams and they had a good result against City. Let’s not get the bunting out just yet, I think we’re(Arsenal) going to absolutely demolish them on Sunday, and then at that moment I will remind them that they managed to lever out the greatest footballer in history because they thought that was a great idea.”

Morgan had urged the former Ajax boss to resign from Manchester United following the 7-0 humiliation at the mercy of Liverpool. He wrote on Twitter, “Has Ten Hag resigned yet? How can any Manchester United manager survive a performance & result that catastrophically dreadful?”

Manchester United next faces Brentford at Old Trafford on Thursday. They will hope to gain a victory to keep alive their top-four race.
