PSG set to sack Manager Mauricio Pochettino and Director Leonardo following Kylian Mbappe’s transfer U-turn

PSG are set to sack manager Mauricio Pochettino and Director Leonardo following Kylian Mbappe’s dramatic U-turn contract extension.

It’s been a whirlwind of a few days at the Parc De Princes. Much of the commotion was due to Kylian Mbappe potentially leaving the club to join Real Madrid. The probability of Mbappe moving to the Spanish capital was rather high, but ultimately he chose to extend his contract till 2025. But this extension is coming with conditions.

As per reliable reports, PSG are set to sack manager manager Mauricio Pochettino and Director Leonardo as this is Mbappe’s choice. A change in the club hierarchy is said to be at the top of the Frenchman’s wish list.

The PSG-Poch Story Has No Happy Ending

Pochettino joined PSG at the beginning of 2021 to replace Thomas Tuchel. In his first season at the helm, the former Tottenham Hotspur boss failed to win the league, and did not make it past the semi-finals of the Champions League. But he was given a pass as he had joined the team only six months prior.

PSG Mbappe and Poch

This season, he has been able to regain the league crown, but PSG were embarrassingly knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid following a second leg capitulation. The Argentine has never seen eye-to-eye with the people in charge. Rumors of him being sacked or leaving the club have been persistent for quite a while. Pochettino, who was once the captain of the Parisians, is set to be finally relieved of his duties after months of speculation.

Kylian Mbappe Doesn’t Want Leonardo

For the past three years, Leonardo has served as PSG’s sports director. He has played a vital part in recruitment as the club has continued to dominate French football. They are also on the hunt for their maiden Champions League trophy.

It is believed that Leonardo did not have any role to play in the Mbappe negotiations. The pair did not always see eye to eye and Mbappe did not want to continue with Leonardo in the boardroom. PSG unsurprisingly bowing to his wishes. It’s not just Mbappe, Leonardo ahs had troubled relationships with other managers as well. Former Monaco director Luis Campos is being lined up as his replacement.

A new era is about to begin in PSG.
