Robert Lewandowski reveals details from conversation with PSG superstar Lionel Messi at Laureus awards

Robert Lewandowski has revealed details of his conversation with Paris Saint Germain superstar Lionel Messi which took place at the Laureus Sports Awards.

During the latest Laureus Sports Awards ceremony, both Robert Lewandowski and Lionel Messi were seen chatting together. They were nominated for the Sportsman of the Year award, which was awarded to Messi eventually. It was his second-ever Laureus Sportsman of the Year award.

Fans of Barcelona were excited to see both superstars together, with rumors of a Messi comeback becoming stronger. Lewandowski has now decided to describe what he talked about with Messi.

What did Messi and Robert Lewandowski speak about?

The Polish striker claims the two were discussing Barcelona and that the Argentine was overjoyed to chat about his former club. He revealed Messi’s ‘eyes lit up’ when he heard the name Barca.

According to Barca Blaugranes, this is what Lewandowski said, “Keep it a secret, but when I told him about Barcelona his eyes lit up. And it’s not surprising, after all, he grew up here, he has a house here that he visits often. Barcelona is his home.”

He also spoke about whether he would like to see Messi come back to the club. He said, “I know what Messi means for Barcelona. When you think of Barcelona you say Messi and when you think of Messi you say Barça. I also know what value Leo would bring to our team, not only on the field but also for the whole club.”

He also further explained why he will like to play with Messi.

“I’ve always liked playing with players who understand football. And Leo is top-notch. Also, Messi has changed his style of play a bit in recent years, today he is more of a ’10’, a midfielder.”

Lewandowski joined Barcelona last summer in a €50 million deal from Bayern Munich. Since then, he has been on a scoring streak, scoring 23 goals and six assists in the league. Thanks to his efforts, Barcelona won the La Liga trophy and the Spanish Super Cup trophy as well.

Messi: Will he come to Barca or not?

Once his two-year contract at Paris Saint Germain ends after this season, he can leave for free. Fabrizio Romano even confirmed that Messi has now already decided to leave PSG at the end of the season, having rejected their previous contract renewal offers.

Saudi club Al-Hilal reportedly provided the Argentine superstar a contract for more than €400 million ($438.2 million) each season. This offer was made one month ago, though Messi did not respond to it yet. The deal could reach almost one billion dollars throughout the whole contract.

It is rumored that his father and family want him to accept the Saudi deal. Messi may not want to argue with his family, though there is no doubt he wants to return to Barcelona.

Barcelona who is the other competitor for Messi cannot give him a high salary. Barcelona are struggling with financial issues and FFP regulations making it extremely difficult for them to sign the veteran.

But it seems that Messi himself wants to return to his childhood club. The Argentine is in close contact with both manager Xavi Hernandez and even president Joan Laporta revealed he spoke with him. Fans of the club chanted Messi’s name frequently in the past few days and even now players like Pedri and Araujo expressed their desire to see him back. It was even reported that Messi was part of the title celebrations in the locker room via a video link.

Barcelona are working on strategies to convince La Liga to sign Lionel Messi. If the club can pull this miracle off, we could see Lionel Messi back in his eternal club and partnering up with another world-class striker in Robert Lewandowski.
