Abdullah Mason squared off against Alex de Oliveira in a six-round lightweight bout at the Huntington Center in Toledo, Ohio. The rising lightweight star put on a dominant display in front of his home fans by knocking out his opponent in the second round of the bout.

Following this win, Mason has improved his record to 9-0 and has now won eight of his fights via knockouts. This shows that he has a lot of potential as he didn’t offer Oliveira many chances and annihilated an experienced boxer with a good record.

Lopez took to social media and claimed that the young lightweight star from Ohio is the next big thing for ESPN. 

Lopez could be right for now as Mason has shown no signs of stopping as he has passed pretty much every single test put in front of him in a convincing fashion. However, he still has a long way to go as there will be tougher challenges and many big names in the lightweight division who could pose a big threat to him in the future.

Abdullah Mason vs Alex de Oliveira match recap

Competing in the undercard of Jared Anderson vs Charles Martin, 19-year-old lightweight prospect Abdullah Mason stole the show with his early knockout win over Alex de Oliveira. The Ohio-born boxer dominated the bout from start to finish and maintained his undefeated pro boxing record.

Speaking about this matchup, Mason kept a safe distance initially and worked his way around with jabs. Meanwhile, Oliveira was unable to land any of his punches and found it difficult to find stable ground. Taking advantage of the situation, the young prospect started landing power punches and pressurized his opponent. 

In the second round, he started landing combinations and hurt Alex. Thereafter he landed a barrage of punches to drop Alex de Oliveira. His opponent was unable to get up before the ten count and as a result, the referee stopped the bout.
