‘The sendoff was inappropriate’ Ex-UFC star Chael Sonnen expresses concern over Khabib Nurmagomedov’s legacy being lost in history

The former undisputed lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov, has been retired from MMA fighting for a while now. Although he is no longer a fighter, he is continuing his MMA career as a coach with the American Kickboxing Academy.

Nonetheless, Chael Sonnen is concerned about the recent rumors of his departure from coaching.

Khabib Nurmagomedov is arguably the greatest MMA fighter of all time. His legacy in the MMA world is one of the sport’s few. Despite being one of the best of his era, Chael Sonnen is worried about the future. According to him, the great Khabib’s legacy will be forgotten rather than remembered.

The latest update from the 34-year-old made the American MMA fighter more upset. Recently, a former Russian professional MMA fighter claimed that he would not continue his coaching ahead of UFC 284 next month.

The 45-year-old stated his sorrowful words on his YouTube channel. He said, “That might be the last we hear of Khabib; is that where we’re at?”

Chael Sonnen then explained, “That would kind of be a very sobering moment, wouldn’t it? That would be a lot to accept. Is this how we’re saying goodbye to Khabib? Has he already said goodbye? I just feel like that’s a massive story. I feel like the sendoff was inappropriate. I don’t want to imagine this is the last time I say the words ‘Khabib Nurmagomedov” to you guys, but it might be.”

The former undisputed lightweight champion retired from the sport on March 19, 2021. Afterward, the Eagle was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame on July 1, 2022. In his career, he has had countless achievements.

However, in the end, after his retirement from the game, he decided to coach young MMA fighters with American Kickboxing Academy head coach Javier Mendez.

He currently coaches and corners current UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev, who is going to compete against Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 284 next month in Perth, Australia.
