Bantamweight contender Rob Font is making his return inside the octagon this weekend after a lengthy layoff of one year to take on Adrian Yanez in a three-round bout on the main card of UFC 287. This highly anticipated matchup will take place on April 8th at the Miami-Dade Arena in Miami, Florida.
After going on a four-fight winning streak between 2018 and 2021, Font has suffered two back-to-back losses against Marlon Vera and Jose Aldo. Consequently, the American fighter has slid down to sixth in the bantamweight rankings. Meanwhile, Adrian Yanez is undefeated since making his debut in the UFC. Yanez is in great form after finishing four of his five fights in the promotion.
Therefore it is needless to say that this is a crucial fight for Font if he wants to maintain his rankings in the division.
Rob Font advises Adrian Yanez to not sleep on him
As we lead closer to this PPV, UFC released the first episode of the embedded vlog series. In this video, Rob Font speaks about his upcoming fight against Adrian Yanez and shares his thoughts on his opponent. Interestingly, Font gave props to Yanez for his winning streak but also warned the rising contender to not sleep on his skills.
“This is a big fight for me you know. I took a year off. I needed it. You know I needed a year off to kind of recoup. Adrian Yanez is uh, this dude is a killer. He’s got a lot of momentum on his side. He’s on a nine-fight win streak. I just hope he doesn’t sleep on me. It’s going to be a banger. This is a guaranteed fight of the night for sure.”
With that being said, fans can expect a violent showdown between these two bantamweights as they have great striking abilities. In the first episode of the UFC 287 vlog, Font looked in great shape and his coach claimed that the American fighter’s perspective on fighting has changed and he is now a much better fighter.
