Tony Bellew begged Derek Chisora to retire, reason of former cruiserweight not retiring comes as a shock

Derek Chisora was one of the most feared boxers in his prime. However, those days are long gone; he has recently had a very difficult time in the ring. Chisora’s friend, former WBC cruiserweight champ Tony Bellew now reveals shocking info about ‘Del Boy’s retirement.

Tony Bellew announced his retirement shortly following his defeat to Oleksandr Usyk. Chisora lost to Usyk too but he wanted to keep on fighting. Derek’s only win in his last few fights was against Kubrat Pulev. This victory earned him the shot against the returning champ Tyson Fury.

The match against Fury was extremely one-sided. Chisora’s only show of toughness was in his ability to take damage. The level of competition present in his last two matches against Tyson was nowhere to be seen. The situation got so bad for him that the referee had to step in and stop the match.

With many fans expecting ‘Del Boy War’ to retire, his friend Tony Bellew had this to say, “I’m close to Del, and I love Del to pieces. But I don’t want to see him back in a ring. And I begged him to stop. I begged him, begged him, begged him – but he won’t, he loves fighting.”

When asked if financial reasons are involved behind Chisora’s refusal to retire, Tony said, “Del isn’t doing it for the money, that’s the frightening part. I understand when lads are skint and you’ve got to carry on fighting because you’ve got a family to provide for. But Del’s okay. Del’s financially good. He doesn’t need the money.”

Bellew then warned Chisora by stating how continuing to box can leave him incapable of looking after himself. It’s unclear what ‘Del Boy’ will do going forward but many fans would rather see him retire.
