Jorge Masvidal retired last month, leaving the UFC title known as BMF vacant. The victor of the eagerly anticipated Dustin Poirier vs. Justin Gaethje battle, however, will be proclaimed the new BMF belt holder, Dana White abruptly announced Tuesday night.
The UFC president not only announced the return of the BMF championship but also offered some updates on the stacked main card for UFC 291, which will take place in Salt Lake City on July 29. In addition to the fight for the honorary BMF belt, there will be a ton of other thrilling matches to look forward to.

The rematch between Justin Gaethje and Dustin Poirier is on the cards
Many mixed martial arts fans still have vivid memories of the great fight between Gaethje and Poirier in 2018. Five years after their first confrontation at 155 pounds, fans are still eagerly anticipating another great lightweight bout between the two American fighters.
A rematch between Justin and Dustin initially seemed like an outrageous idea, but excellent news for the fans is Dana White made the announcement yesterday. Now that it is official the thrilling lightweight contest will take place in only two months, The Diamond and The Highlight are already excited for their rematch.

What happened in the first encounter between The Diamond and The Highlight?
Poirier triumphed in their previous octagon clash. However, according to many that was the fight of the 2018. After that, a lot of things changed in the lightweight division: Conor McGregor’s performance declined; Khabib Nurmagomedov reigned; Charles Oliveira won the title for the first time; and now Islam Makhachev is in charge.
The rematch between the second- and third-ranked fighters in the division is sure to be exciting given their rivalry and the fact that the BMF title is now on the line. Previously Jorge Masvidal defeated Nate Diaz in the UFC 244 headliner to earn the BMF title.
