UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling weighs in on upcoming bout vs Henry Cejudo at UFC 288

Seems like the highly anticipated fight between Aljamain Sterling and Henry Cejudo might be happening after all. Earlier Aljo decided to go on a break to recover from one of his injuries which put the fight on hiatus. Some time has passed and now the champ seems ready for the biggest challenge of his life.

During one of his Youtube videos, the 135 lber said,

“I’m fighting May 6 against Henry Cejudo. I’m looking forward to the challenge. Again, I think Henry is a very tough dude, very accomplished in the wrestling world, I think also in the MMA world. I think the wrestling might cancel each other out – might. We will see if I’m actually able to rag-doll him.”

He brought forth the question, “We’re gonna figure out in the first 5 minutes and from there, we’ll figure out if we want to waste a ton of energy grappling, or do we want to put these (hands) to the test and show the world what high-level grapplers can do when it comes to striking?”

He continued, “I don’t give a sh*t about the cringe and all that. I’m taking you very, very seriously, and I cannot wait to put my shin across your head and show you that you’re good, but you are just not on my level. … I know you are good at grappling, clinch work, and things like that. You can say whatever you want to say (about) my wrestling and talk about my striking and all this.”

He added, “I think my range is gonna be a problem. I think you’re tough, I think you’re durable, you showed that in the Marlon Moraes fight, but I just think I have more ways to win, and I think that’s going to be the difference in this fight.”

How might a fight between Aljamain Sterling and Henry Cejudo look?

Aljamain had a good run in his leadup to the Petr Yan fight. The Bantamweight had 3 losses before but it seems like he is learning from his mistakes. But we can’t forget he was losing the first fight against Petr and won the bout against Dillashaw in a not properly contested match.

Cejudo has beaten T.J. before and arguably has a better ground game compared to ‘No Mercy’. Not only did ‘Triple C win the Olympic Gold, but he also defeated the likes of Mighty Mouse, Dominic Cruz, and Marlon Moraes.

UFC 288 is currently scheduled for May 6th.
