UFC Flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo voices support for former president Jair Bolsonaro, urges for coup against government

Deiveson Figueiredo is scheduled to take on Flyweight Interim champion Brandon Moreno for a fourth bout in the UFC Rio fight card. Both fighters have 1 win and 1 draw to their name with the hope that the fourth fight finally proves who the superior fighter is. But the Brazillian gets caught up in a political issue just weeks before his big fight.

Jair Bolsonaro is one of the most controversial figures in Brazilian politics. The former president recently went toe-to-toe with his opponent Lula Da Silva only losing by a small margin after further elections took place. Recently he has taken shelter in UFC legend Jose Aldo’s residence in Florida and fans are not happy.

What is Deiveson Figueiredo saying now?

Ever since Lula Da Silva got into power, many Brazilians have been protesting against the liberal. A call for staging a military coup against the new president has been only getting stronger with many people now camping in front of military headquarters across Brasil.

Fighters like Rafael Dos Anjos, Cris Cyborg, Vitor Belfort, and Paulo Costa have already shown their support for the former president. Paulo went on to claim it the time of eating dogs to survive was coming back soon as Brazil now had a socialist leader. Deiveson seems to share similar support for the defeated presidential candidate.

In his Whatsapp, the current champ wrote shared a message, “Invade Brasilia. Either a free country remains or (we) die for Brazil.”

Another picture he shared contained the message, “Now the order is to camp inside the Congress, Planalto, and STF (Supremo Tribunal Federal, Brazil’s Supreme Court of Justice).”

However, the most serious message he shared was, “The generals have two options and one choice. 1: to join our country’s enemies, betray the nation and destroy the legacy of our military forces. To become cowards unworthy of the uniforms they wear and act as a militia in the service of a thief (referring to current president Luis Inacio Lula da Silva).”

“2: To honor their uniforms, protect the country and heed the people’s call, To support president Bolsonaro in the fight for democracy and freedom. To rid this country of the communist coup and become Brazilian heroes.”

UFC 283 is set to take place on January 22.
