UFC icon Max Holloway expresses desire to get Michael Jordan like deal with Nike: “Pay the fine for me”

Max Holloway has solidified his legacy as one of the greatest featherweight fighters in the history of UFC. The Blessed Express has beaten big names like Jose Aldo, Charles Oliveira, Brian Ortega and many others in his eleven-year glorious MMA career.

He has also won the featherweight belt once and defended it on four occasions. Despite suffering multiple losses to arch-nemesis Alexander Volkanovski, Holloway has time and again bounced back and made a big statement in his fights.

Max Holloway expresses his desire to wear Nike shoes

The UFC has signed a long-term deal with Dwayne Johnson in which all fighters and corner men have to wear Project Rock footwear during all the fight-week events. Following his deal, many fighters like Nate Diaz and Chito Vera have dissed the shoe brand publicly. Consequently, Max Holloway was asked about his thoughts on the Rock’s shoes in a recent interview with Complex.

The former featherweight champion revealed that he is cool with Dwayne Johnson and is on good terms with his manager. However, Blessed expressed his wish of wearing Nike shoes and also stated that he wants the popular shoe company to pay the taxes like they did for NBA legend Michael Jordan during his basketball career.

“At the end of the day, I’m just saying The movie air just dropped. You guys showed how you went after Michael Jordan. Why don’t you guys step into a whole new realm of MMA fights in the octagon and let’s get it? I know you guys paid the fine for Jordan. Pay the fine for me, let me use them for walkouts and let’s get it,” stated Max.

Holloway’s idea seems nice but MJ was a one-in-a-generation type of player and was an exceptional case. Besides, if they were interested in combat sports, then they would have given competition to Rock’s footwear brand.

Who is Max Holloway’s next opponent?

After annihilating Arnold Allen in his last bout, Max Holloway called out Chan Sung Jung for a fight because he was the only top featherweight that he never faced in his career. The former featherweight champion’s wish of fighting The Korean Zombie has come true as the promotion recently announced this matchup for the UFC Fight Night event.

Blessed will headline this event against Chan Sung Jung in a five-round bout on August 27th. This highly anticipated matchup will go down at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore. The Korean Zombie is not going through the best form but it will still likely be an exciting battle as both featherweights are highly skilled and have amassed a lot of experience over the years.
