UFC star Colby Covington slams Jorge Masvidal’s retirement calling it a ploy to use steroids

Fans of MMA are not unfamiliar with the hostility between Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal. Covington has now further stoked the fire by asserting that Masvidal’s retirement is nothing more than an excuse for using performance-enhancing drugs, leaving the USADA pool, and making a comeback.

About twenty years ago, Masvidal started his mixed martial arts career. After UFC 287, Gamebred finally made the decision to put his gloves away. Masvidal and Gilbert Burns fought on April 8 at the Miami-Dade Arena as part of UFC 287’s co-main event. After losing to Durinho, the Miami native announced his retirement from mixed martial arts.

What did Colby Covington have to say about Jorge Masvidal’s retirement news?

Covington attended the highly anticipated fight between Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. During the fight, Chaos spoke with Inside Fighting about his thoughts on Masvidal’s retirement.

“I retired him last March when we fought here at the T-Mobile Arena in 2022. He hasn’t been the same. I took away his confidence, his ego. He hasn’t been the same fighter. He just showed up for a paycheck his last fight.” said Colby.

The previous year, Gamebred and Chaos squared up in the octagon to put an end to their long-running dispute. Colby and Jorge squared off on March 5 in 2022 in the main event of UFC 272, but Covington defeated Masvidal in a fairly one-sided contest. Chaos now thinks Gamebred will be back as he doesn’t have any other option to earn money.

“It’s a fake retirement. We all know people in the UFC, they’ll retire, they’ll get out of the USADA pool, probably go do some steroids then come back. He doesn’t know how to make money any other way but fighting. I can guarantee you he’ll be back to get a paycheck.” Colby added.
