UFC Vegas 70: Nikita Krylov’s sudden illness cancels main event vs Ryan Spann

Ryan Spann and Nikita Krylov were supposed to square off in the UFC Vegas 70 main event, but Krylov’s unexpected physical illness prevented them from fighting.

On Saturday, February 25, Nikita and Spann’s light heavyweight fight was advertised for the UFC Fight Night event hosted at UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. However, the fight was canceled in the very last minute making thousands of spectators disappointed.

Krylov most recently competed in the UFC 280 main event between Islam Makhachev and Charles Oliveira, where he defeated Volkan Oezdemir and earned his second consecutive win of the year. The Miner just before that fight, won against Alexander Gustafsson to break his losing streak.

For Ryan Spann (21-7-0), it was also about extending his winning run after he defeated Ion Cutelaba and Dominick Reyes in two of his 2022 contests. The 31-year-old fighter is really disappointed that the bout did not take place as scheduled.

Ryan learned of the fight’s cancellation just a few minutes before the event due to Krylov’s illness, and Superman couldn’t help but voice his annoyance to the media because he and his crew had put a lot of effort into preparing for this battle.

“F—K. I just found out not even 10 minutes ago. Still trying to process.” said Ryan.

The American, however, wouldn’t call it a wasted camp because according to him, they weren’t training for this specific fight but the disappointment came from him not getting to show off some of the things he has been doing.

Krylov was not so pleased to be unable to battle due to food poisoning, much like Ryan and his crew. The Ukrainian fighter wanted to compete, but despite the best efforts of his team and medical crew, he ultimately was unable to do fight, according to UFC reporter Megan Olivi.

For both fighters, it offered an astounding chance to secure a spot among the top five Light Heavyweight fighters.
