“We are ready, the ball is in Anthony Joshua’s court”: Deontay Wilder trainer Malik Scott eyes potential bout between former heavyweight champs

Anthony Joshua vs Deontay Wilder is a dream match-up for all boxing fans and the mega-fight now seems to be more realistic than we all once expected. Wilder’s trainer Malik Scott recently broke the news about the ongoing negotiations for the heavyweight bout that could possibly take place in Saudi Arabia.

Malik recently appearing for an interview said that if the highly anticipated showdown takes place between the former heavyweight champions, the move will be ‘good for boxing’.

Scott when asked about the flying rumors said, “What I can say is the things people are hearing are not fibs. The negotiations have begun, not with certain fighters or certain things, but the negotiations are definitely intact. Everything is getting together, we’re gonna see what fighters really wanna fight at that level.”

“The ones that do, Deontay is gonna knock out and he’s gonna become two-time heavyweight champion of the world. I can say that those rumors are true, negotiations are going on and big fights are gonna be happening. Not just with us, with a lot of top fighters out there in the heavyweight division in Saudi Arabia.”

What does Malik Scott think about the Anthony Joshua fight?

After losing two consecutive fights to his arch-rival Oleksandr Usyk, Joshua returned to the ring last month with a convincing over Jermaine Franklin. After the fight, Joshua tried to press the big Tyson Fury fight but didn’t really get a positive response from the ‘Gypsy king’.

Wilder on the other hand returned to action with an incredible first-round knockout against Robert Helenius. The win came after the devastating knockout loss against Tyson Fury back in October 2021.

Anthony Joshua

Talking about the big Joshua fight, Scott said “I’m very, very big on Deontay fighting Anthony Joshua. I believe that it’s good not just for boxing. It’s good for so many reasons. It’s a treat to society. I believe that Deontay fighting Anthony Joshua is that type of fight that motivates not just the little kid in the inner city that’s trying to make it to the top to provide for their family, but also the businessman”

He continued “It’s good for mankind. It would be a real tragedy if this fight doesn’t happen. That’s the fight I’m polling for every time someone asks me what’s next for Deontay. We’ll see. Deontay wants to fight. I want to fight. This whole side here wants to fight. We want to see what AJ does now. The ball is kind of in his court. We are ready.”
