“We’re going to come back”: Ryan Garcia’s father claims rematch vs Gervonta Davis at 140 to happen only if he gets to “rehydrate”

Ryan Garcia suffered a brutal knockout loss against Gervonta Davis in their highly awaited super fight that took place last weekend at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. This was Garcia’s first professional loss in boxing and it is needless to say that this was a bitter pill to swallow as this defeat came against his arch-nemesis.

The rehydration clause made a lot of noise in the news throughout the build-up of the fight and many fans as well as fighters believe that it played a major role in Ryan Garcia losing the fight. Consequently, some want to see the two superstars collide against each other in a rematch down the line.

Similar to the opinion of many, Ryan’s father Henry Garcia also believes that there is a possibility of a rematch. However, he laid down a stipulation that there should be no rehydration clause. While speaking to Little Giant Boxing, Henry shared insights about the fight and in the end, gave credit to Tank.

“We’re going to come back at 140. We’re not going to have conditions this time. Just the way it should be. You know what I have to thank the Davis team, congrats to the Davis team, I’m humble.”

“It is what it is, but we’re going to come back. The only way Ryan would do something like that (rematch Davis) is if Ryan moved up to 140 and rehydrated to, you know, a normal weight. That’s the only way. But right now, we did what we could. He gave the whole world a great fight. They loved it. But we’re gonna move on and we’re just gonna prevail,” he further added.

A rematch at 140 pounds makes sense as both fighters have massive star power and they can generate a good number of PPV buys once again. Although Garcia would need to rack up a few big wins in the 140-pound division in order to earn the right for a rematch.
