Alex Volkanovski’s coach Eugene Bareman doubles down on not wanting The Great to fight Max Holloway

Alex Volkanovski coach at CKB (City Kickboxing), Eugene Bareman recently revealed in an interview that he did not want Volk to face Max Holloway in the second fight. Bareman says that he is the only person on their team who thought that the fight was not a good idea.

Volkanovski managed to grind out a decision win against Holloway, but the second fight was very close according to fans and MMA experts. This was probably due to Volk not being at 100% as the fight was contested on short notice. Eugene Bareman did not want to risk his fighter in such a short time. The coach also believes that the third fight is unnecessary as Alex Volkanovski already beat Max “Blessed” Holloway twice!

Here is the interview where Eugene Bareman discusses Alex Volkanovski’s upcoming fight:

The Kiwi coach thinks that this third fight will once and for all end the Max Holloway rivalry and this chapter of Alexander Volkanovski’s fighting career. If Volk does defeat Holloway the third time, he won’t have a prominent challenger at featherweight and will have to move up to lightweight.

There has been speculation that Volkanovski will try and move up to challenge for the lightweight belt! Whether that will be against Charles Oliveira or Islam Makhachev is still undecided since the lightweight belt is currently vacated! The fate of that division hangs in the balance at the moment.

But before all the talk about moving up a division, Alex Volkanovski will have to fend off Max Holloway! One of the greatest featherweight fighters in the world, Max decimated his opponents Calvin Kattar and Yair Rodriguez to earn back a shot at Volk’s belt.

This will probably be Max Holloway’s last chance at capturing the featherweight strap, as he won’t be able to get a fourth fight if he loses. But if Holloway can defeat the “Great” he will be rematched by Volk for a firecracker of a 4th fight!
