Belal Muhammad uses Jon Jones-Colby Covington drama to make his case for UFC title

Covington is expected to be the challenger of the welterweight title currently held by Leon Edwards as both of them have been linked to a fight at UFC 295 on Nov. 11, which will also be the 30th anniversary of the UFC and is set to feature the heavyweight title fight between Jones and Stipe Miocic as the main event.

Covington claims that Jon Jones is stopping the UFC from putting him on the same card, which is the supposed reason for not putting up any official announcements regarding his title fight.

Belal Muhammad on the other hand has been on a 10-fight winning streak, he is expected to be in line for the title shot as well. Ever since his victory against Gilbert Burns, the Palestinian has been putting a lot of effort into elevating his name over Colby as the title challenger.

Belal Muhammad points to Jones – Covington feud as sign for title shot

Belal Muhammad used the controversy between Jones and Covington to put his point forward for the title fight against Edwards. While Dana has been adamant about Colby being next, Belal believes himself to be a better candidate.

In a recent interview, Belal Muhammad backed up Jones saying, “Jones being the heavyweight champion has earned the right to make such decisions if these allegations were true. It is a heavenly sign that the UFC should book the fight between him and Edwards instead”

When was the last time Belal Muhammad fought?

Belal Muhammad hasn’t fought for 4 months. His last fight was against Gilbert Burns at UFC 288 in the welterweight division which resulted in a dominating victory for Belal as he went all the rounds and won by unanimous decision. It is to be noted that Burns got injured pretty early in the fight and could not fight properly.

Before that, he defeated the then-undefeated Sean Brady to establish himself as a proper contender for the 170-pound gold. He also picked up wins against the likes of Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson and Demian Maia on his way to the top.
