Brock Lesnar vs Daniel Cormier: Dave Meltzer offer optimistic review on long awaited WWE dream matchup

Wrestling Observer Radio reporter Dave Meltzer recently revealed his observation regarding the most amazing Brock Lesnar vs Daniel Cormier match that might take place in WWE. With Crown Jewel taking place on November 5 and still without an opponent, rumors began to surface this weekend that the two former UFC stars may square off inside a WWE ring.

Cormier and Lesnar engaged in a heated argument at UFC 226, generating rumors that they will meet in the Octagon. As Lesnar maintained his career in the WWE and Cormier proceeded to establish himself as a commentator in the UFC, their simmering rivalry was mostly forgotten, and that match never came close to happening.

Dave Meltzer acknowledged the potential and highlighted earlier incidences of MMA fighters who started off as referees before moving on to the boxing ring.

This weekend, their worlds will clash at Extreme Rules with Cormier, who is finally getting his feet wet in pro wrestling by serving as the special guest referee for the Fight Pit match between Seth Rollins and Matt Riddle. The question is whether this is just a one-time thing or the start of something bigger.

Will Daniel Cormier fight Brock Lesnar in WWE?

Being a guest official is different from entering the ring for a match, including all the preparation. Cormier may be more open to commentating for WWE if the company approaches him about it. Is it possible that he could play one gigantic match if he really wanted to? Meltzer stated, “Daniel will never go full-time, I’m sure he will never do full-time WWE wrestling, but would he do a match at WrestleMania? I could see it. Would he do it with Lesnar? I could see it. He’s a big wrestling fan, he might wanna do it.”

Dave Meltzer also reported Cormier versus Brock Lesnar could be something WWE is thinking about behind the scenes. Meltzer notes, “There’s people who are speculating maybe he and Brock do their match.” He added, “I don’t know. I think if he wants to do pro-wrestling at this stage of his life, and my gut is that … I don’t know. I don’t think he wants to. I haven’t talked to him about this in so long, years.”

Prior to actually pursuing MMA, the 43-year-old Cormier seriously considered a career in pro wrestling with TNA. That proved to be a wise decision, as he went on to win UFC titles in both the light heavyweight and heavyweight divisions during his Hall of Fame career.

While Lesnar was also a UFC heavyweight champion, the two men never fought in the octagon, despite hyping a match in 2018. A match between them at WrestleMania 2023 would be the perfect opportunity to bring some outside star power into WWE’s biggest show of the year, potentially drawing some UFC fans who would not otherwise watch.

This isn’t the first time Daniel Cormier’s name has come up in connection with a WWE role. Back when FOX was genuinely interested in hiring Cormier to commentate on SmackDown, he was also very vocal about the possibility.

WWE has only done one Saudi event without a Lesnar match, so it would be a surprise if he did not appear—regardless of whether Cormier is his opponent.

If things go differently in Saudi, Lesnar vs. Cormier would be a spectacle worthy of the WrestleMania stage
