Former Two-Division Champion Calls for Dricus Du Plessis to Be Next in Line for UFC Middleweight Title Shot after UFC 293 Upset

UFC 293 has been a hotbed of discussion among UFC fans ever since the curtains of the event were raised. The fight between Sean Strickland and Israel Adesanya was something fans were looking forward to. Both the Middleweight fighters have thrown vicious jabs at each other over social media with even instances of Sean calling Adesanya as “Chinese”.

In the aftermath of the monumental upset at UFC 293, where Strickland faced off against Adesanya, former two-division champion Daniel Cormier has weighed in with a bold suggestion. Cormier has always been straight-out vocal with his opinions regarding the sport and this time around, he also had a bold suggestion to make.

Daniel Cormier Wants Du Plessis to Be Strickland’s Opponent in Title Defense

Daniel Cormier, a respected figure in the world of combat sports, wasted no time in expressing his belief that the no. 1 contender in the division, Du Plessis, deserves the opportunity to compete for the UFC middleweight championship. In a recent interview, Cormier stated, “I think he deserves the opportunity to fight for the belt. He was supposed to be here (at UFC 293)… I feel like he gets the title fight.”

Cormier also expressed that he thinks “The Stylebender” should take an extended break from the sport for some time rather than aim for a quick reversal and go for revenge. He further emphasized, “The only way he (Dricus) doesn’t get that title fight is if by some way Khamzat Chimaev just starches Paulo Costa, and then the world starts to go crazy begging for Khamzat Chimaev to get an opportunity to fight for the belt.”
