Gilbert Burns Spills the Beans on Reasons Colby Covington Won’t Fight Khamzat Chimaev

UFC Welterweight contender Gilbert Burns says that fellow division contender Colby “Chaos” Covington will not fight rising star Khamzat Chimaev.

UFC president Dana white proposed a fight between Covington and Chimaev earlier in the month. Even though it seems like this fight is on the UFC’s mind, Gilbert Burns thinks otherwise.

Burns, who is nicknamed “Durinho”, was speaking to an MMA junkie when he said,” That’s a tough fight, but the first thing is first – Colby has to accept the fight and I don’t think he will. “I don’t know why, but I just have a feeling he won’t accept the fight. That’s the feeling that I have.

“I think it will be a very tough fight, a very, very close fight. But I just don’t think he’ll say yes. I just don’t think. Maybe Belal (Muhammad) is there and they make Belal vs. Khamzat. I said I’ll be ready for a rematch, so we’ll see. I want big fights, that’s what I’m looking for next. But I don’t think Colby will fight Khamzat.”

Outside of these two title fights against champion Kamaru Usman, Covington has fought fighters who have come off multiple losses. His latest opponents include Jorge Masvidal, Tyron Woodley, and Robbie Lawler. Although all of these are household names, they are far from the prime, or not even close to the top of the division.

“Because lately, he’s just getting the fights against guys that are coming off a loss and he picks and chooses,” Burns said. “I just don’t think he will do it. I don’t know. It’s a feeling that I have. He’s not taking this fight.”

it will be interesting to see who Chaos fights next. A fight against Burns cannot be ruled out either. Especially after this interview, things are sure to get more heated up.
