“I guarantee any guy in the top 5 will finish him” Gilbert Burns claims Conor McGregor will be unsuccessful in welterweight division amid UFC comeback bout vs Michael

Conor McGregor has expressed his desire to fight for the welterweight title. But former title challenger Gilbert Burns is skeptical about ‘Mystic Mac’s chances in the highly competitive division.

McGregor, a former double champion, is scheduled to make his comeback in a welterweight fight against ‘Iron’ Michael Chandler after both fighters coached opposing teams on season 31 of The Ultimate Fighter.

During an interview with Damon Martin of MMA Fighting, the fifth-ranked welterweight expressed his opinion, saying:

“The only thing he can do at 170 is make whoever’s the champion rich. I hope it’s me, but if it’s Leon [Edwards], if it’s Colby [Covington], whoever it is, you’re going to get a lot of money, but I don’t think it’s going to be a hard fight. Whenever his mind is there, when he is committed to training, no whiskey, no crazy stuff, if they lock him up and this guy’s focused on training, he’s very dangerous, but I don’t think that’s the case.”

Despite Conor’s announcement that he will make his comeback in a welterweight fight, no information has been provided regarding the date of the bout. McGregor, who suffered a leg injury at UFC 264 in July 2021, has not competed in a fight since then.

What did Gilbert Burns say about Conor McGregor fighting Michael Chandler?

In his much-awaited return to the Octagon, Conor McGregor is scheduled to fight Michael Chandler. Burns, who is a teammate of Chandler’s at Kill Cliff FC, has recently given his forecast for the fight.

“I think it’s going to be a first-round fight. Whoever hits first, that’s it. Good night for the other guy. I hope Chandler wins but Conor has a big chance, too. It’s a crazy fight, but Chandler at the beginning with that power, with the explosion, with the speed, super quick in and out, I think Chandler can knock him out. We’ll see. First round, we’ll not see a second round in that fight.”
