‘‘I wanna be next’’: Amir Albazi demands flyweight title shot next at Abu Dhabi, defeats Kai Kara-France via split decision at UFC Vegas 74

Against Kai Kara-France tonight, Amir Albazi won by a split decision, extending his impressive 5-fight winning run. For his next bout, he has his eyes set on Abu Dhabi and hopes to compete for the title.

At the UFC Apex facility in Las Vegas, ‘The Prince’ and ‘Don’t Blink’ fought in the night’s headliner bout. Albazi defeated Kai via split decision (48-47, 47-48, 48-47). The result managed to stir up a controversy in the MMA community as many thought the decision should’ve gone for Kai instead.

In the post-fight press conference, Albazi said it was a close fight and this is not how he planned this fight to go. However, according to the Iraqi fighter, he once again showcased what he can bring to the table.

Does Amir Albazi deserve a title shot?

The 29-year-old fighter is currently on a hot streak in UFC with a 5-0 record. Among the active flyweight fighters, he’s right there with the likes of Muhammad Mokaev who has amassed a four-fight win streak in the same division. Hence, the number 7-ranked 125-lb fighter believes he deserves a title shot next.

“There is only one thing I want. I will get that title. That’s all that matters. Abu Dhabi, Oct. 21. I know they’re coming to Abu Dhabi, that’s my people. I want to be next. I’m next. Let’s go.” said Amir.

Who will face ‘The Prince’ in Abu Dhabi if he gets his title shot?

A thrilling title match is scheduled to take place in the co-main event of UFC 290 in addition to the main event between Alexander Volkanovski and Yair Rodriguez. On July 8, 2023, the event has been scheduled to take place at the T-Mobile Arena venue in Paradise, Nevada.

The current flyweight champion Brandon Moreno will square off against Alexandre Pantoja at the co-main event. The winner of the UFC 290 flyweight title fight will theoretically face “The Prince” should he actually get the title shot in Abu Dhabi.
