“I’m ok just got a bruised eye”- Joe Joyce calls for Zhilei Zhang rematch despite horrific sixth-round loss

Joe Joyce suffered a devastating loss against Zhilei Zhang in the sixth round of the fight that took place in London at the Copper Box Arena. The British heavyweight’s hopes of earning a title shot went down the drain after losing this WBO interim title bout.

Speaking about this heavyweight clash, Joyce absorbed a ton of shots and consequently, his right eye was swollen up badly by the sixth round. Thereafter the referee for this matchup, Howard Foster decided the British boxer was in danger and stopped the contest.

This upset proved to be The Juggernaut’s first professional boxing loss as he was on a terrific fifteen-fight winning streak. Everyone was expecting Joe Joyce to retain his interim belt against Zhilei Zhang and force Tyson Fury to compete against him in a super fight.

However, the 37-year-old’s loss has raised question marks regarding his future as he is not getting any younger. Moreover, Joyce has taken a lot of damage in his fights.

Joe Joyce confirms he will comeback after his loss against Zhilei Zhang

The entire boxing world was shocked after Zhilei Zhang stopped Joe Joyce in the sixth round to become the new WBO heavyweight interim champion. It is needless to say that this was Zhang’s best performance in his professional boxing career.

However, this loss has put Joe Joyce’s future in jeopardy. As mentioned earlier, The Juggernaut is 36 years old and his road to a title shot has almost become unattainable. Following this defeat, several critics and fans were making an assumption that he will not make a return to the ring.

Although Joyce shut down all these rumours by posting on social media and confirming that he will be making a comeback and demanding a rematch against Zhilei Zhang. He captioned this post “Before you all right me off. I’m ok just got a bruised eye, I think I’ll be ok. As Fights go I’m in good health.”

“Not a great performance. However, but I’ll go back to the drawing board and have to improve. Zhang was the better fight on the night. But I still think I can beat him, even though he’s a strong contender.”
