Julian Nagelsmann shares views over Chelsea job as fans want Graham potter sacked after humiliating 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa

Julian Nagelsmann shared his views about potentially taking over the managerial role at Chelsea should current manager Graham Potter be sacked.

The former Bayern boss is not keen on replacing Graham Potter at Chelsea, at least this season. He has also been linked heavily with the vacant manager spot at Tottenham.

Potter is battling for his job after his side was humiliated 2-0 at home by Aston Villa on Saturday. The Blues have been Europe’s largest spenders since Todd Boehly’s group took over the club last summer. They have spent more than £500 million on the team, but they are currently 11th in the Premier League.

Despite being fired by Bayern Munich last month, Nagelsmann remains one of Europe’s finest prospective managers. The former RB Leipzig manager is presently a free agent following his departure from the German club, but he does not wish to accept the Chelsea job at this point.

Nagelsmaan had led Bayern Munich to a second position in the league and a perfect run to the quarter finals of the Champions League this season. Despite all this, he was replaced by former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, as his results and tactics were deemed unsatisfactory by the Bayern Munich hierarchy.

According to Sky in Germany, Nagelsmann is very respected by Chelsea’s leadership, who remain confident in Potter for the time being. However, Nagelsmann does not want to return to management immediately and will wait until the summer to determine his destiny.

Why could Chelsea consider sacking Graham Potter?

Despite Chelsea chairman Boehly’s support for Potter, he may be compelled to make the move. The Blues are on track for their worst finish in the Premier League for the first time in 27 years. The fans are clearly unhappy with the English manager and have asked for his sacking repeatedly.

Potter is expected to stay in his position until the end of the summer. A top-four result seemingly out of reach. Chelsea trail Tottenham by 11 points in fourth place and must overtake Fulham, Villa, Liverpool, Brentford, Brighton, and Newcastle to catch Spurs.

However, a poor performance between now and the last game of the current season could determine Potter’s destiny. Chelsea has an opportunity to achieve silverware this season despite their poor success at home, as they have made the Champions League quarter-finals. However, they will meet champions Real Madrid in a two-leg match later this month. They are massively expected to bow out of that competition as well.

Graham Potter is under the cosh at Chelsea

Graham Potter also spoke after the game, “After a defeat, there is always a disappointment. There is always a feeling we have not moved forward, that’s fair to say.”

“I don’t like to blame anybody, I have to take responsibility. We are a team, we have to stay together, we are together. Whether we win or lose together. We will recover and we will prepare for the next game. We need to respond, that’s clear. But we look forward to it.”

It remains to be seen what the Chelsea management does. Whether Graham Potter is sacked can only be seen in the upcoming months.
