Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor went to war against each other back in 2018 at UFC 229 for the lightweight title. What initially started as a casual matchup between the two fighters turned very nasty and disrespectful towards the end. Khabib avenged all the disrespect from McGregor and emerged victorious by a fourth-round submission win.
Dillon Danis, who was Conor McGregor’s training partner at the time, got into a heated physical altercation after the fight as the Russian fighter leapt out of the cage at the former MMA fighter.
When jumped out of cage at Dillon Danis
Just moments after Khabib Nurmagomedov tapped out McGregor with a neck crank in the fourth round, he turned his attention to Danis, who was in McGregor’s corner. Khabib Nurmagomedov leaped over the cage and attacked Danis before the scuffle was broken up by security. Nurmagomedov’s teammates watched from inside the cage before getting into an altercation of their own with McGregor.
Reflecting on the chaotic scenes in an interview with former MMA fighter Chael Sonnen that took place 9 months ago, Danis insisted he could have sued Nurmagomedov. Danis also revealed that throughout the fight, Khabib kept gesturing to him with his face and fingers.
Danis continued to explain why exactly Khabib jumped out of the cage at him. El Jefe revealed that in between rounds when Dillon was behind McGregor, Nurmagomedov kept screaming at him and tried to come towards him.
Danis could already sense Khabib Nurmagomedov’s hostility. After the fight when Khabib was screaming and pointing at Dillon, Danis shouted at him, inviting him to come over. Subsequently, Khabib jumped over the cage and confronted Danis.
The Russian and the Irishman were once friends who wanted to train together and had mutual respect. However, things took a drastic turn, and the two fighters do not speak well of each other these days.
What happened to Khabib Nurmagomedov after he jumped UFC 229 cage?
The post-fight drama allegedly created by Khabib Nurmagomedov had some serious consequences for the undefeated lightweight champion. It was reported that the Nevada State Athletic Commission filed a formal complaint against both the headliners at UFC 229.
The Eagle was fined one-fourth of his purse, which amounted to $500,000. In addition to this, NSAC also suspended the lightweight champion for a duration of nine months. Abubakar Nurmagomedov and Zubaira Tukhugov, who allegedly climbed inside the cage and threw blows at Conor McGregor, were also suspended for one year each.
The 9-month suspension and $500,000 fine weren’t the only punishments Khabib had to face. Khabib’s credibility and glory were also questioned after the incident. However, Nurmagomedov silenced all the haters as upon his return to the cage, the Russian defended his championship against Dustin Poirier at UFC 242.
