Leon Edwards sets sights on Colby Covington showdown at UFC 294 or UFC 295

Leon Edwards, the reigning welterweight champion, has consistently claimed Colby Covington as an undeserving challenger for the next title shot. Dana White, on the other hand, has maintained a firm stance that ‘Chaos’ will be the next challenger for the title.

In a recent interview, Edwards appears to have had a change of heart and now expresses his willingness to face Covington in his upcoming title bout.

Leon Edwards eyes epic clash with Colby Covington

It seems that Edwards has reconsidered his stance and is open to the possibility of meeting ‘Chaos’ in the octagon for his next welterweight battle. In an interview with ESPN, Leon shared details about his preparations to face Covington while speaking with reporter Carlos Contreras Legaspi.

“I’m good, I’m back training now. I’m back in the gym, my body’s feeling good, hoping to get back in there in October or November. I think Colby (Covington) is gonna be the opponent, so it’s all good.” Leon said.

The reigning champion also expressed interest in several venues and fight cards where he would like to face Colby in the octagon.

Leon mentioned that Abu Dhabi is his top choice, considering it the preferred location for the fight. Additionally, the 31-year-old fighter mentioned he is also considering New York’s Madison Square Garden, as it holds a legendary status in the world of combat sports.

What is Leon Edwards UFC ranking?

After securing a unanimous decision victory over Jorge Masvidal at UFC 272, Colby Covington has not had any further fights in the octagon. In the meantime, “Rocky,” has had two victories over Kamaru Usman.

In a highly anticipated rematch held at the O2 Arena in London, United Kingdom, Rocky, and The Nigerian Nightmare faced off for the third time in their careers. The fight, which took place in March, ended with a split decision in favor of the defending champion, Edwards.

Despite a fierce challenge from Usman, Edwards managed to retain his welterweight gold strap and solidify his position as the champion. During the post-fight press conference, Dana White announced Colby Covington as the next title challenger for the welterweight glory.
