Dana White’s blunt update on Colby Covington vs Leon Edwards for UFC welterweight title fight puts ‘Chaos’ in a tough spot

Colby Covington and Leon Edwards’ welterweight title bout has generated controversy ever since it was announced. Dana White recently kept the UFC fans in suspense after failing to provide a proper time schedule for the fight.

There has been a lot of criticism following White’s declaration that Covington is the most deserving opponent in the welterweight division to compete for the title. Reigning champion Leon also didn’t find ‘Chaos’ to be worthy enough to challenge his reign.

Dana White responds to Colby Covington vs Leon Edwards fight date

In the most recent UFC event at Canada, Dana was asked to share the most recent development of the welterweight title fight.

UFC president, during the post-fight press conference for UFC 289 didn’t clearly say anything to answer the question rather avoided the question by saying, “Nope, thanks for asking, have a great night. Thank you, Canada we appreciate you”

It is now uncertain whether Colby would actually get his chance or if Dana had simply been talking sweet all along by withholding any current developments on the welterweight title fight.

Will Leon Edwards fight Colby Covington?

Not only the current champion was baffled as to why Colby should be his next opponent, also many MMA fans believed that the American fighter had been given a “Dana White’s privilege” because of his relationship with the UFC president.

‘Rocky’ in an interview with Ariel Helwani recently expressed why he thinks Colby isn’t an ideal title contender. According to the Briton, Covington hasn’t done enough to be in the spot where Dana is trying to put him.

“He’s getting rewarded for not taking fights. When it was me, I got removed from the rankings. So this Dana White privilege is definitely real.” Edwards said.

Edwards, who fought Kamaru Usman to defend his title, thinks ‘Chaos’ losing twice in the past shouldn’t get another chance. Colby, on the other hand, keeps touting himself as the deserved title contender and putting pressure on Leon to agree to fight.

Do you concur that Covington needs to establish himself before contending for the title once more, or should Leon Edwards face Belal Muhammad instead? Share your thoughts with us in the comment section.
