Manchester City Ace Erling Haaland breaks Liverpool star Mohamed Salah’s Premier league goal scoring record with 33 goals this season

Erling Haaland keeps breaking records like they are nothing. He broke another important record as his side Manchester City beat Arsenal 4-1 on Wednesday.

After netting his 33rd goal of the season in Man City’s win against Arsenal on Wednesday, Erling Haaland established a new Premier League record for most goals in a 38-game season.

How did Manchester City beat Arsenal?

Mikel Arteta’s side has led the league for most of the season. But they could not recover from De Bruyne’s seventh-minute goal at the Etihad Stadium. The Belgian was assisted by Erling Braut Haaland as he ran through the middle of the pitch. He then delivered a low shot into the corner to bag the opener.

Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale made several excellent saves to keep Arsenal in the game before John Stones headed in a second goal for City in the final minutes of the first half. Though initially called offside, it was given as a goal after a VAR check.

Nine minutes into the second half, De Bruyne scored his second goal of the game. This was also assisted by Haaland.

Rob Holding scored a consolation goal for Arsenal in the 86th minute. In stoppage time, Erling Haaland finally scored a record-breaking goal to seal the game, making it 4-1.

Erling Haaland and his incredible season so far

Haaland had joined Manchester City from Dortmund for £51 million in the summer. In his first season in England, the Norwegian has been in fantastic form, pursuing the goalscoring record established by Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.

Prior to Haaland’s arrival, the Egyptian attacker had held the record since 2017-18, when he scored 32 goals in that Premier League campaign.

However, he is still not the league’s best single-season goalscorer, with Andrew Cole and Alan Shearer both scoring 34 goals in 1993-94 and 1994-95, respectively. But those were when the league had 42 game seasons. Despite this, the Norwegian remains on track to surpass both of them. City still has six top-flight matches remaining so Haaland can expect to beat their record as well.

The 22-year-old has been prolific in all aspects for Pep Guardiola’s side, having notched a total of 49 goals in all competitions this season. He also has four hat tricks in the Premier League so far this season.

Haaland breaks 94-year City goalscoring record

On top of his impressive tally in the Premier League, the Norwegian also has 12 goals in eight appearances in the Champions League, three in three in the FA Cup, and one goal in two Carabao Cup outings. His goals are helping Manchester City to a possible treble this season. Winning all three trophies could possibly help him in winning the Balon d’Or.

His most notable performance was during City’s 7-0 humiliation of RB Leipzig in the UCL this season. He bagged five goals in that game, becoming the second player after Lionel Messi to score five goals in the UCL knockout stages.

Pep Guardiola has no doubt been crucial in unlocking Haaland to a different level. Having Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, and Phil Foden also helped Haaland a lot.

Haaland will hope to continue his goalscoring record as Manchester City travel to Fulham on Sunday. They will hope to win to continue their Premier League title race.
