Manchester derby: Pep Guardiola claims they “Don’t have a chance” against their bitter rival

The next assignment is the toughest assignment in terms of local rivals of Manchester at the Theatre of Dreams. It is a game of glory, it is a game of history, it is a game of prestige. The Devils are waiting while Pep Guardiola and his men are a little shaky at the moment.

Guardiola believed, the performance Man City showed against Southampton in the quarter-final of the EFL Cup, they are far from competing against Manchester United if the show is going to be repeated. He insisted “they don’t have a chance”- is what describes them at the moment.

Man City was sloppy from the start of the game, and it is so unusual to hear from the stats, but the bottom line is, Man city failed to have a shot on target for the first time since 2018!

“When you are not prepared to play this game, you arrive one inch late and don’t score a goal. When you are prepared you to score the goal. Today was a bad night, the opponent was better, so we have to congratulate them. To win games you have to deserve it and tonight we didn’t deserve it.”- Guardiola said after the Saints loss.

City was guilty of surrendering the position way too cheaply and they conceded two quick goals inside the first half an hour and never recovered from there, not even with the introduction of Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland in the second half, left Pep Guardiola frustrated.

“If we perform in this way, we don’t have a chance. The better team won. We didn’t play well; we didn’t play well in the beginning. There are many games you can start not good and overcome and we didn’t do it.”- the Spaniard further added.

Manchester United on the other hand is in red-hot form after winning six games in a row and will be out to avenge their humiliating 6-3 loss in their previous meeting.

If the poor run of performance continues, with the season has already begun to gather up speed, Guardiola will have a lot to think about. But all things pointing towards a grandstand match.
