Marcus Rashford eyes FA Cup Final to dash Man City’s treble aspiration

Marcus Rashford has expressed his desire to crush the hopes of rival club Manchester City’s treble-winning aspirations.

On Saturday, Manchester United and Manchester City will face off in the FA Cup final. It will be the first time a Manchester derby will take place in the coveted cup final at Wembley.

Manchester City is going to want to win the competition to continue their treble hopes. They have already secured the Premier League title, their third consecutive title. They are also in the Champions League final against Inter Milan.

Currently, there is only one side from England to have achieved a treble-winning season. It is none other than Manchester United who won all three competitions in 1999. They still remain the only team from England to achieve this feat.

As such, it will be the envy of United fans to see their hated rivals win a treble. Marcus Rashford is also one such fan.

What did Marcus Rashford say?

Manchester United have had a brilliant season by their standards in recent years. Under Erik Ten Haag, they have already broken a trophy drought of six years by winning the Carabao Cup earlier. They have managed to secure a top-four finish to secure Champions League football.

So, now they have a chance to beat City, their rivals in an FA Cup final and in the process stop their treble run.

On Monday night, Rashford spoke about the final at the club’s end-of-season awards ceremony. He said he has an extra motivation to stop City in the final.

“Ensuring Man United remain the only English club to do The Treble? That’s the most important thing.”

The England international was awarded the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year at the awards ceremony. These trophies are the result of the brilliant season he’s had. He is the first academy graduate since 1998 to achieve this feat.

Rashford has been in electric form this season for United. He has scored 30 times in 55 overall competitions. It was his best season by far and helped the club a lot. But he still believes he is capable of improving more.

“It’s obviously a proud moment,’ he said. ‘I feel I should have scored a few more, but, you know, there’s always room for improvement.”

Manchester City close to a historic treble win

Pep Guardiola’s men have the Premier League already secured. They are also favorites in their respective final clashes against both United and Inter Milan.

This season, Manchester City has been in incredible form. They have beaten big teams like Real Madrid, Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Arsenal, and many others like they were nothing. They have one of the best defensive systems in place and have high possession and attacking stats.

City also boasts one of the best football teams in the world right now. They have Erling Haaland in front, with World Cup winner Julian Alvarez and Riyad Mahrez. They have the likes of De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, Rodri, Foden, and Gundogan in midfield. In the back, with Ederson in goal, they have Ruben Dias, Nathan Ake, Walker, Stones, and Laporte. This is a squad that everyone fears and they could win everything.

Guardiola already knows what a treble feels like. He won the historic sextuple with Barcelona back in 2009. Now he can do the same with Manchester City and cement his status as a great tactician of the game.
