Months after defying Dana White’s orders UFC champ Leon Edwards hints bout vs Colby Covington could happen this year

Leon Edwards, who previously declined to face Colby Covington in his next octagon bout, has now seemingly had a change of heart. After months of hesitation, Edwards has finally accepted the idea of taking on Covington.

It appears that Edwards has reevaluated his stance and is now open to the idea of facing ‘Chaos’ in the octagon for his next welterweight clash.

Leon Edwards rejects Dana White’s offer

Initially, Leon had repeatedly voiced his belief that Colby Covington is not a deserving contender for the next title shot. Edwards has expressed his view that there are other fighters who have a stronger claim to the opportunity of getting a title shot.

However, Dana White, the president of the UFC, has remained steadfast in his position that ‘Chaos’ will be the next challenger for the welterweight title. Despite Edwards’ reservations, White has maintained his decision and stood by Covington as the rightful contender for the gold strap.

Leon Edwards on potential bout vs Colby Covington

In a recent interview, Leon Edwards displayed a shift in his perspective, expressing a newfound willingness to square off against Colby Covington in his upcoming title bout.

During his conversation with ESPN reporter Carlos Contreras Legaspi, ‘Rocky’ provided insights into his training and preparations for the potential showdown with ‘Chaos’, signaling his readiness to take on the formidable opponent.

“I’m good, I’m back training now. I’m back in the gym, my body’s feeling good, hoping to get back in there in October or November. I think Colby (Covington) is gonna be the opponent, so it’s all good.” Leon said.

The reigning champion has voiced his desire for potential venues and fight cards where he envisions facing Colby Covington in their anticipated octagon clash. Abu Dhabi stands out as Edwards’ choice, deeming it the ideal location for the fight.
