Promoter Eddie Hearn brutally dismisses undefeated Jermall Charlo amid Canelo Alvarez speculation

As things stand, there is a good chance that Canelo Alvarez and Jermall Charlo will fight in September. Eddie Hearn, a famous boxing promoter, recently had an in-depth discussion regarding the fight.

Eddie recently appeared in an interview with Fight Hub TV, where he talked about Cenelo’s next fight. With so many options for the Mexican including a move up to a new weight class, the promoters comments bring in some clarity.

Hearn’s honest take on Charlo’s 2 years hiatus

Charlo in the last three years fought only twice. Hence Eddie’s concern is the long absence from the ring might get crucial for the American boxer. On the other hand, Alvarez would find Charlo an easy opponent to defeat as well.

“You can say that Charlo has been out for two years. That’s actually the easiest of them. I saw him [Charlo] on FaceTime with Demetrius Andrade. He didn’t look like he was very close to being able to fight, but he’s a good fighter, Charlie. I know he’s a good character and good luck to him,” Hearn said.

Canelo yet to choose his next opponent

The deal for Canelo Alvarez’s future boxing match has not yet been finalized. The most recent bout of Alvarez took place against John Ryder on May 6 at Estadio Akron in Guadalajara, Mexico. With scores of 120-107, 118-109, and 118-109, Canelo prevailed.

Eddie thinks at this point in his career, Canelo can now fight pretty much whoever he wants. Even though Saul might face criticism for that, but he has earned that right. Considering everything, there’s still a high chance for a Canelo and Charlo fight.

“I don’t think it’s necessarily the direction that he wants to take, but you know, I think with the Bivol fight stalling, I think the [Jermall] Charlo fight is probably the favorite and frontrunner,” Eddie added.

Out of a whopping 63 bouts, Saul has won an incredible 59 fights. The Mexican boxer has only ever lost twice, by majority decision to Dmitrii Bivol in 2022 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, and to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2013.
