Former UFC fighter Chael Sonnen has expressed his thoughts on the potential Jon Jones vs Stipe Miocic fight, saying that there is a very strong feeling around it.
The return of Jon Jones is something UFC all over the world are waiting for. The former Light Heavyweight Champion last fought in 2020. He is set to go up a division to heavyweight, and fight against Stipe Miocic.
But although there have been plenty of rumors about this fight happening, there hasn’t been any official news yet. UFC fans seemed to be fixated on the idea that Jones has to fight Miocic when he returns.
Former fighter and current commentator Chael Sonnen has touched on this saying that there hasn’t been any sign of a fight happening from the Miocic camp. Sonnen’s claim make a lot of sense given that a fight of this magnitude usually has hype built up about it months before.
Although Jones has been hyping up his return for a while now, the prospects of a potential fight might dim down if we don’t see any sign of progress from the Miocic camp.
Sonnen also touched on how fans are reluctant to see Jon Jones fighting anyone else. With so many top heavyweight in action in the coming months, a lot of narrative can be run. Since this will be Jones’ first fight at Heavyweight, no opponent will be easy. It is still expected that Jones will fight someone from the top 5.
The most mouthwatering fight would be Jones going up against current champion Francis Ngannou. But he have to see a fight with Stipe first!
Even if people are under a cloud about potential events, rest assured the UFC will come up with a solution.
