Tyson Fury’s withdrawal paves the way for Oleksandr Usyk vs Daniel Dubois bout for WBA heavyweight title

Tyson Fury with his withdrawal from the intended fight against Oleksandr Usyk has resulted in the Ukrainian being ordered to face his mandatory challenger, Daniel Dubois, for the WBA heavyweight championship.

While Fury and Usyk were in talks over a blockbuster undisputed clash, discussions ultimately broke down, with both sides failing to agree on material terms beyond the purse split.

As a result, Usyk has closed down his training camp and will now focus on facing Dubois in a mandatory defense of his titles.

Dubois on the Rise: Can he Topple Oleksandr Usyk for the WBA Heavyweight Title?

While Dubois lost his first career fight to Joe Joyce in November 2020, he has since claimed five straight victories, including the WBA heavyweight title against Trevor Bryan.

Dubois has been touted as a possible challenger to Usyk, and his camp has been in discussions with Usyk’s promoter, Alex Krassyuk, regarding a potential bout.

When inquired whether a potential fight against Dubois will happen, Krassyuk said, “The closest opportunity for Usyk is the WBA mandatory so it’s Daniel Dubois.” He suggested that the fight could take place in the UK, with London or Manchester being possible options.

This would be a fitting location for Usyk, who has won all three fights on British soil, including a victory over Anthony Joshua to defend his world titles in Saudi Arabia.

Dubois has demonstrated an impressive form of late, with notable wins over Bogdan Dinu and Joe Cusumano, as well as his capture of the WBA (regular) title. He is determined to make the most of his opportunity against Usyk and is confident of causing an upset.

From Fury to Flurries: Undisputed Dreams Shattered, Usyk vs. Dubois Steps Up to the Plate

Having Fury vs. Usyk collapsed has caused worldwide disappointment among boxing fans, since the bout was expected to crown boxing’s first undisputed world heavyweight champion.

Although Fury is slated to return next month against a different opponent, it is unclear whether a fight between him and Usyk will ever take place.

For now, all eyes are on the upcoming Usyk vs. Dubois bout, which promises to be a thrilling encounter between two talented heavyweights. Will Dubois dethrone Usyk and become the new WBA heavyweight champion, or will Usyk continue his impressive form and retain his titles? Only time will tell.
