UFC Vegas 54: “This Is a Unfinished Fight” Aleksandar Rakic Calls Out Jan Blachowicz for Rematch Post Brutal Knee Injury

UFC light heavyweight contender Aleksandar Rakic has claimed that the fight with Jan Blachowicz is unfinished. Rakic wants a rematch with the former champion after a brutal knee injury ended the fight early, Earning Blachowicz a TKO victory over the much younger Rakic.

Rakic went into the fight as a betting favorite and for good reason, as the Austrian is 9 years younger than Jan Blachowicz and was on a massive winning streak. Prior to this loss against the Polish veteran, Rakic beat the likes of Thiago Santos and Anthony Smith convincingly. He had only one loss on his UFC record, which came against Volkan Oezdemir in 2019.

Aleksandar Rakic naturally wants to rematch Jan, as he would feel that the TKO was not “proper” in a sense. During the 3rd round of the UFC Vegas 54, Rakic stepped heavily on his back leg which caused his knee cap to blow out. He was unable to continue any longer and Jan Blachowicz earned the technical knockout victory.

But to be fair to Blachowicz, the injury was not a fluke accident. The ex-champion attacked Rakic’s legs viciously from the first minute of the fight which made the Austrian switch stances and put more pressure on his back leg. It was evident in the second round that Aleksandar Rakic’s stand-up game was compromised as he went for the takedown and tried to keep it on the ground.

It is unlikely that Rakic will get his rematch with Blachowicz anytime soon, he will have to take a considerable amount of time off following the injury. Jan is also going for eye surgery after he suffered a cut in his tear duct region. Blachowicz also called out for a rematch against current champion, Glover Teixeira.

Teixeira took the belt from Jan last year and is going to defend it for the first time against Jiri Prochazka at UFC 275 in Singapore in June of 2022.
