Undefeated welterweight Conor Benn admits to mistakes in handling of failed drug tests: “There’s a lifetime of regrets in the way I’ve dealt with this”

Conor Benn has publicly acknowledged his errors in the doping controversy that has overshadowed his career. The unbeaten welterweight fighter faced two positive drug tests for a prohibited substance in 2022, leading to an ongoing effort to clear his name.

In a candid conversation with Boxing News, Benn opened up about the personal and emotional challenges that the case brought to his life. He acknowledged the impact on his family, his reputation, and his sense of identity as a professional athlete.

Despite the setbacks, Benn expressed a determination to learn from his mistakes and regain the trust of his fans and the boxing community.

“At one stage I was down and out; I was broken and there was no point of return. The hardest fight is life. I could have never foreseen this. I could have never predicted it, I could have never thought I’d be in this situation.”

According to him, his mourning pushed him to handle the circumstance in a manner that he presently feels remorseful about.

“It shocked me, and there’s a lot of regrets, the way I dealt with this. There’s a lifetime of regrets in the way I’ve dealt with this.”

Conor has recently opened up about his regretful handling of the doping controversy that has rocked his career. In particular, he expressed remorse over not providing enough information to his loyal fans who were seeking clarification on the situation.

While Benn continues to maintain his innocence and denies taking any banned substances. He admitted that he struggled to explain what had happened, which made it difficult to address the public’s concerns.

Looking back, Conor acknowledged that he should have communicated more openly and transparently with his supporters. He expressed his regret for not satisfying the public’s desire for more information and pledged to do things differently in the future.

He recognized that being a professional athlete comes with a responsibility to be accountable and transparent. Not just in moments of triumph but also in times of adversity.

Currently under provisional suspension from the United Kingdom Anti-Doping Agency (UKAD) and the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC). Benn is preparing for a hearing that will provide him with the opportunity to speak out and clear his name.

The 26-year-old is determined to learn from his past mistakes and emerge from this challenge as a stronger, wiser, and more accountable athlete.
