What happened to Josiah Harrel? looking at concerning diagnosis leading Jack Della Maddalena’s withdrawal from UFC 290

There has been a series of changes for the scheduled bout between Jack Della Maddalena and Sean Brady at UFC 290. Initially, Sean Brady was unable to compete due to an injury, and Josiah Harrell stepped in as his replacement.

However, it is confirmed now that Jack Della Maddalena has also decided to not participate in the fight, resulting in the cancellation of the bout for UFC 292.

What happened to Josiah Harrel?

Brady, who made his UFC debut in 2019, had a successful start to his career in the organization facing Ismail Naurdiev at UFC Fight Night 151 and winning the fight by unanimous decision.

In his second UFC bout, the Philadelphian fighter showcased his versatile skill set and defeated Court McGee by unanimous decision. Brady continued his winning streak by defeating Christian Aguilera and demonstrating his dominance against Jake Matthews.

These victories further solidified the 33-year-old fighter’s position in the UFC. With an impressive overall record of 15 wins, 1 loss, and no draws, Brady also secured a victory over Michael Chiesa. However, Brady faced a setback when he suffered a defeat at the hands of Belal Muhammad last year.

Unfortunately, due to an injury, Sean Brady has taken himself out of the fight in UFC 290. As a result, Jack Della Maddalena was set to face Josiah Harrell instead.

According to Harrell’s manager Maurice Blancoe, during the pre-fight MRI scan, a rare brain disease has been detected, and the young fighter will require surgery.

“Josiah Harrell’s pre-fight brain MRI may have saved his life. He was diagnosed with moyamoya syndrome, a rare disease that results in blocked arteries at the base of the brain. He will undergo a brain procedure soon.” Blanco said.

Due to Jack Della Maddalena’s withdrawal from the fight, MMA fans will have to miss out on another exciting clash in the welterweight division. However, UFC 290 still looks quite stacked with the likes of Brandon Moreno, Yair Rodriguez, Alexander Volkanovski, Robert Whittaker, Alexandre Pantoja, and Robert Whittaker expected to compete.
