Ex-UFC star Khabib Nurmagomedov training 5-year-old son, but does not want him to go into MMA or sambo

UFC Hall of Famer and former Lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov continues to be one of the most popular figures in the sport. While he usually keeps his family life a secret, in a recent interview Khabib openly talked about his son’s training regiment and future championship ambitions.

Usually, Khabib keeps his private life separate from his public life. The only family that most people are familiar with is his father and cousins. However, the former lightweight often gets asked questions regarding his family. Since his son is a bit older now, Khabib probably felt more comfortable talking about him.

Speaking to the media at an Eagle FC event, Khabib revealed that his 5-year-old son has already started training. His son started walking on the home-gym mat and started training at around the age of 3.

Currently, Khabib Jr trains under a coach in Makhachkala. Sports are very popular amongst the youth in Dagestan and many kids start training at a very early age. So it was only natural for the champion’s son to start in his infancy.

‘The Eagle’ further revealed that his son mainly trains Wrestling and Gymnastics. In the future, Junior might take part in Olympic events too. As far as combat sports like Sambo and MMA go, Khabib would rather not.

Nurmagomedov explains that he himself started at a very young age and had to go through extremely rigorous training camps. The injuries sustained, the surgeries required, the sacrifices made and the weight cut issues haunt him.

Khabib’s family is still heavily involved in MMA. Usman Nurmagomedov is the reigning Bellator Lightweight champ, Umar Nurmagomedov fights at Bantamweight, and Abu Bakar Nurmagomedov fights at Welterweight.

With such great influences around, Khabib Jr might very well take on MMA and maybe carry the legacy along!
