Khabib Nurmagomedov is the most dominant fighter the octagon has ever seen. The undefeated 29-0 record is a very impressive feat considering the unpredictability of mixed martial arts. Khabib dominated his opponents and won every round of every fight! But behind his immense success is one driving force, his father Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov.

Khabib was born to Abdulmanap and his wife in 1988 on the mountains of Dagestan, Russia. Khabib received his Combat Sambo, Judo and MMA training from his father, who himself was a trained fighter and coach. The basement of Khabib’s childhood home was turned into a gym by his father.

Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov was born Sildi of Tsumadinsky District to Avarian parents. Despite being a freestyle wrestler from a young age, Abdulmanap completed his graduation from university with a degree in economics.

Abdulmanap later joined the Soviet armed forces and served as an officer. While serving in the Soviet Army, he began to practice judo and sambo and got more involved into combat sports and training in general.

The Dagestani was a legendary coach in his own right and trained a lot of Russia’s best fighters including his own son. Khabib’s teammates such as the likes of Islam Makhachev, Umar Nurmagomedov, Zubaira Takhogov were all trained by the Nurmagomedov patriarch.

Unfortunately, Abdulmanap passed away at the age of 57 due to complications from COVID-19. But during his lifetime he was an army officer and MMA coach. He owned a gym where he trained young children and professional fighters alike.

Most of his lifetime earnings came from pension as an army officer and coaching fighters. Abdulmanap was not allowed to apply for a visa to the United States due to his time in the USSR army and intelligence sector.
