Latest NFL change gives Justin Jefferson the ammunition to reset WR market

The Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson is entering the last year of his contract, with the possibility of hitting free agency in 2025.

Jefferson is considered one of the best wide receivers in the league and the Vikings are expected to offer him a contract extension. However, the cost to retain the WR has been increased this Friday.

Justin Jefferson to cost Vikings even more

It is expected that the Vikings will offer a new deal to Justin Jefferson which was expected to be the highest WR salary. Jefferson already claimed that he would agree to a deal that would break the bank.

“I want to break the bank and I want to be a part, you know, of an organization, you know, that wants me and really gives me what I deserve. So, you know, I feel like, you know, eventually the Vikings will, you know, do what they need to do to have me in the building,” Justin said.

Vikings must be regretting not signing the WR earlier as his contract worth has been increased this Friday. The NFL announced that this year they have increased the salary cap which will mean that the Vikings will also offer more price for Jefferson.

For 2024, the NFL salary cap has been increased to $255.4 million per team. With this increase, Jefferson’s price goes up even higher. Questions arise about the structure of Jefferson’s potential contract, including the guarantee of money and the duration of the deal.

Now the Vikings may need to adjust their approach to meet Jefferson’s demands. Despite injury setbacks, Jefferson’s on-field performance remains stellar, solidifying his position as a top player in the league and increasing his bargaining power in contract negotiations.

Notable NFL WRs Jefferson can overtake with new contract

Despite coming off an injury-ridden season, Jefferson is still considered one of the exceptional players in the league. With the new contract offer, the WR is expected to surpass the contract value of Tyreek Hill and Davante Adams.  The Miami Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill signed a four-year, $120 million contract extension.

Similarly, Davante Adams also signed a five-year, $140 million contract extension with the Las Vegas Raiders. These were considered the highest-value contract extensions for WRs in the league. Reportedly, the contract extension of Justin Jefferson will be higher than these two.

Tyreek Hill earns $30 million annually, and the Vikings wide receiver is expected to earn more than him. After the new salary cap value was announced, it was confirmed that if the Vikings offer Justin Jefferson a new contract extension, it will be even higher.

However, if the team signs a new quarterback or any other player during the draft process, it can become difficult for the team to sign Justin Jefferson. With free agency and the NFL Draft process just a few weeks ahead, the Vikings will make a decision soon.
