Leon Edwards throws water bottle at Colby Covington during explosive UFC 296 press conference

Colby Covington and Leon Edwards are gearing up for their battle on December 17th for the UFC welterweight championship belt. “Chaos” and “Rocky” are both fighters in the welterweight division who know how to dominate it.

Covington, who recently made serious remarks about the patriotism of Lebron James, once again came into the spotlight during the UFC 296 press conference. There have been numerous verbal exchanges between the champion and challenger, but their recent face-to-face talk escalated into a war zone.

UFC 296, the final pay-per-view of the year, has generated significant hype. During the last press conference for the main event, the Welterweight champion threw a bottle in the direction of the seated Colby Covington on his left side. “Rocky” is prepared to defend his title against one of the top welterweights in the division, whom Kamaru Usman believes could be the champion in the next fight.

However, Usman’s chosen champion entered that zone, which could be a provoking factor for many, as it was for Edwards when he threw a bottle at Colby Covington. The statement of provocation from the 35-year-old was, “I’m bringing you to the seventh layer of hell. We’ll say ‘what’s up’ to your dad while we’re there,” via Pinkvilla.

Edward’s father is no more, and the taunt wasn’t bearable for the champion, and in rage, he got to the point where he had to throw something at his opponent so that he wouldn’t cross the line next time.

Covington has always shown support for US President Donald Trump. Taking this into consideration, Edwards also made some serious insulting remarks, in which he believes the obsession of the 35-year-old with Trump is not right for an MMA fighter. “Rocky” in the press conference mentioned the incident when “Chaos” got a girlfriend and left Trump. Earlier, Leon claimed the UFC was biased towards Colby.

Leon’s take on the incident was, “I think the whole scenario is weird. I don’t get the fascination with another man. I know he used to be the president and stuff, but he’s no longer the president. ‘ [Donald] Trump ain’t wrapping anything around his waist because he ain’t getting a belt. Trump has been to his fights before when he’s lost, so Trump can’t fight for him. He needs to grow up and get a girlfriend or something.”

Later, Covington ignored all of the allegations and judgments of the UFC welterweight champion. Colby Covington said to the press, “You know the UFC doesn’t really have favorites. They don’t care who the champions are going to be; they put the two best guys that are deserving of the shots, and they let them fight it out for it. So, that’s what’s going to happen on Saturday night. Leon can keep making these excuses and keep saying this stupid stuff that no one believes.”

Making Edwards understand that it’s the fighter who wins, not the ones he is supporting, helps him get the win.
