NBA Insider suggests Grizzlies Ja Morant’s suspension could last significant portion of season: “I think an interesting number to look at is 17 games”

Ja Morant has once more been observed on Instagram Live displaying a firearm, continuing her divisive behavior from a few months ago. Morant sought counseling and apologized after his prior incident in a Denver strip club, for which he was suspended for eight games and lost almost $40 million.

It appears, nevertheless, that he has not made any progress or learned anything from his earlier mistakes. Although the particular sentence has not yet been made public, Adrian Wojnarowski of NBA Insider has estimated the number of games that Morant would be punished for.

NBA Insider weighs in on Ja Morant Suspension

Ja Morant’s punishment for his recent gun-wielding episodes on Instagram Live, according to NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, would be given out after the NBA Finals to prevent overshadowing the championship series. Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN offered his analysis of the circumstance, arguing that the league is unlikely to treat Morant leniently this time.

He stated, “Wherever that number lands, I think it’s going to be a significant part of the Grizzlies’ season, of Morant’s season… There’s just not a lot of empathy from around the NBA. And I think there’s even pressure from some teams to deal fairly harshly with Ja Morant.”

“Adam Silver was very intentional in his words last night,” Wojnarowski said. “It does not bode well for Ja Morant. Listen, I think when you start to look at possible lengths of suspension and that’s what we’re talking about. He’s going to be suspended. I think an interesting number to look at is 17.”

Wojnarowski further added, “Because now the NBA at its disposal has a new rule that a player has to play 65 games in the regular season to be eligible for post-season awards. So, for Ja Morant, 17 games off the top immediately would make him, or 18 games, would make him ineligible for post-season awards… What you heard from Adam Silver last night is what a lot of people all around the league in Memphis, everywhere believe that no one’s going to be able to say this time, ‘Hey Adam, you went too lightly on Ja Morant.'”

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver announced that the results of the investigation into Ja Morant’s alleged handgun display on Instagram will be released after the NBA Finals. Silver explained, “We’ve uncovered a fair amount of additional information… but we’ve made the decision that it would be unfair to these players and these teams to announce that decision in the middle of this series.”

The Memphis Grizzlies suspended Ja Morant two weeks ago after a video surfaced showing him with a handgun, following a previous suspension of eight games for a similar incident. Silver acknowledged Morant’s history will influence any further punishment, stating, “I don’t think we yet know what it will take to change his behavior.” The announcement is expected shortly after the Finals conclude.

As NBA fans await the announcement of Ja Morant’s suspension for his recent gun-related incidents, speculation grows regarding the severity of the punishment.
