Paddy Pimblett accepts “It was a lot closer than I thought” on his fight against Jared Gordon, but denies accusations of UFC Favoritism

During an interview with Bleacher Report on Wednesday, Paddy Pimblett admitted that his victory over Jared Gordon in UFC 282 might not have been as straightforward as he initially thought.

Although he remains confident that the right person won. He acknowledged that the unanimous decision was more closely contested than he initially realized.

“I [initially] thought I won two rounds to one, and I watched the fight back. I thought I won two rounds to one. I’ll be honest, it was a lot closer than I thought it was,” Pimblett said.

“I never dominated, but I think the only clear round in the whole fight is the second, and that’s for me. The third round, he just holds me. He doesn’t really do nothing.”

In December, after his victory over Gordon. The 28-year-old UFC lightweight expressed confusion and frustration at the response to his win.

He engaged in an argument with UFC commentator Dominick Cruz right after UFC 282. Stating that there was “no way” a judge could score the fight for Gordon, and dismissed any backlash to the outcome as “simply because people dislike me.”

As recently as February, Paddy continued to oppose the opinions of veteran MMA figures Joe Rogan and Nate Diaz, who believed that Gordon deserved to win the fight.

According to MMADecisions, 23 of the 24 media scores and 90.8% of fan scores gave the victory to Jared. In 11 of the 23 media scorecards that scored in favor of Gordon. He won all three rounds with a score of 30-27.

Pimblett’s latest remarks came shortly after he challenged Jared to a rematch in late 2023, in a profanity-laced video recorded from his hospital bed following ankle surgery.

On April 22, Gordon is scheduled to fight Green at UFC Vegas 72. Paddy has an undefeated record in his four UFC fights. His match against Gordon was the first one to go to the scorecards.

Pimblett expects his ankle to recover in six to ten weeks, and he plans to take a break in May to get married and go on a honeymoon with his fiancée, Laura Gregory. He aims to make a UFC comeback in the latter part of 2023.

Paddy is willing to fight Gordon if given the chance. But he denies that any perceived favoritism from the UFC contributed to his victory.
