UFC fans react to Khamzat Chimaev’s next competitor and announcement on new weight division

Khamzat Chimaev last fought inside the octagon back in September 2022 against Kevin Holland at UFC 279. However, Borz was scheduled to fight Nate Diaz in the main event of the PPV. But after a bizarre turn of events, Chimaev had to face Holland as he missed weight by seven pounds.

Despite ragdolling Loud Mouth and claiming a submission win, Chimaev suffered a big loss as his chance to earn an opportunity for the title shot went down the drain due to missing weight. Ever since that fight, Khamzat has been in rumors to face numerous opponents. With middleweight champion Alex Pereira and Colby Covington being the two big names.

However, both of these matchups were not materialized and there has been no official announcement of a Borz fight for almost seven months. Following his win at UFC 279, Khamzat Chimaev said to Daniel Cormier that he is aiming to become a champion in two weight classes.

Although his chances of getting a welterweight title shot are extremely low as of now and it looks like we might see Chimaev in a new weight class. Moreover, there is a high chance that the UFC has someone in mind for the Chechen fighter’s next bout.

Khamzat Chimaev calls out Paulo Costa and disses the former title contender

Khamzat Chimaev took to Twitter yesterday and posted several tweets and images of his rivals on his account. The Borz took a sly dig at UFC middleweight champion Alex Pereira, Jorge Masvidal, and Paulo Costa. But the most interesting callout was of Paulo Costa.

Because Chimaev posted an image of him standing on the weighing scale and said that “Costa I am coming for you.” Khamzat’s reading of the weight from that image was 98.5 kg which is 216 pounds. This means that the Chechen fighter currently weighs 11 pounds over the light heavyweight limit.

Here are some reactions of fans after seeing Khamzat post the image of his current weight.

From the image, one can assume that Khamzat will most likely fight in the light heavyweight division as cutting 31 pounds will be extremely difficult. And missing weight for the second time would cause severe repercussions. The likelihood of this matchup taking place is very high as Costa has previously competed in the light heavyweight division.

Besides, the Brazilian fighter is highly interested in competing against Chimaev and has called him out on several occasions. One of the reasons for Costa re-signing with the UFC was because he wanted big fights. Do let us know in the comments section below your thoughts if this matchup between Chimaev and Costa takes place.
