UFC star Belal Muhammad explains game plan for potential bout against Colby Covington, following rare sighting with Khabib Nurmagomedov

The MMA fans are eagerly awaiting the announcement of the welterweight title clash between Leon Edwards and Colby Covington. Belal Muhammad who defeated Gilbert Burns at UFC 288 is presumed to face the winner although no official confirmation has been made.

Muhammad recently joined the entourage of Khabib Nurmagomedov preluding his fight with Sean Brady at UFC 280. The training proved to be effective as he finished Brady via TKO giving Philadelphian his first defeat in professional MMA. This victory preceded the short notice 5-round co-main event at UFC 288.

Belal Muhammad talks on potential bout with Colby Covington

Recently, BelalMuhammad was asked about how he would approach a fight with Colby Covington on X (Formerly Twitter). Muhammed’s response was very much detailed and it has sent the internet ablaze.

Muhammad posted on X saying that he would be the one pressuring Covington backwards with boxing. He further explained that he would also pepper the former interim welterweight champion with jabs which would force Covington to shoot which he would easily thwart. Muhammad predicts a finish by a head kick KO. The 3rd ranked welterweight in the UFC is one of the most active fighters on social media.

Belal Muhammad has been calling out Colby Covington for a long time. Covington has declined to fight Muhammed on numerous occasions and has fought only the fighters with a big name value like Kamaru Usman and Jorge Masvidal. Muhammad is unbeaten in his past 10 fights with 9 wins and 1 No Contest against current champion, Leon Edwards.

Muhammad was recently called out by Shavkat Rakhmonov, the undefeated finishing machine in the division. However, the Chicago native is adamant on fighting for the title as presumably promised by the promotion preluding UFC 288.

Belal Muhammad spotted with Khabib Nurmagomedov

A recent Instagram post by American Kickboxing Academy saw Belal Muhammad with Khabib Nurmagomedov and head coach of AKA, Javier Mendez at AKA. Muhammed and Nurmagomedov are reprsented by the same manager in Ali Abdelaziz. Interestingly enough, Kamaru Usman and Gilbert Burns are represented by Abdelaziz as well.

‘The Eagle’ was in the corner of Muhammad when he fought Sean Brady at UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi. Nurmagomedov was seen providing high level motivation to Muhammad before and during the fight. He finished Brady in the second round, his first finish via TKO since he fought Augusto Montaño in September 17, 2016. Moreover, Muhammad has since explained that the gruelling fight camp he had with the Dagestani fighters as one of the important factors for his victory.

Muhammad is eyeing for a shot at the title in his next bout no matter the delay. Colby Covington and Leon Edwards are to fight next but no official announcement has been made. It was presumed to co-headline the MSG card in November headlined by Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic. However, the past history with Jones and Covington makes it complicated.
