Why Conor McGregor might buy Manchester United and still support ‘family’ Liverpool

How would it feel if a life long Liverpool fan went on to own their arch rivals Manchester United? As bizarre as it may sound, UFC fighter Conor McGregor just might pull that off in the future.

“The Notorious” Conor McGregor is the biggest name in the UFC. The Irishman has taken the sport to a whole new level, and that has opened the avenues of cash for him. Today, Conor is one of the highest paid athletes in the world. Despite being out of action since July, Conor still generates more income from his businesses than most fighters do from their fights.

But idle money is never beneficial. If you have a lot of money, strategically you should use that money to make more money. Conor is well very rehearsed in that arena, and has expressed his desire to buy a Football club as a means to fulfilling certain ambitions. Last year he sent out a Tweet saying, “”Hey guys, I’m thinking about buying Manchester United! What do you think?”

He added more context to the matter by saying, “”A conversation came up regarding Celtic first to be honest. To acquire shares from Dermot Desmond.”

“I am certainly interested in acquiring a sports team at some stage! Both Celtic and Man United are teams I like for sure. But I am open. I feel I could do big things for a club.”

Even though Conor expressed his desire to own Manchester United, he did not shy away from the fact that he and his family are fans of United’s arch rivals Liverpool. Speaking ahead of the Champions League final between Liverppol and Real Madrid, the 33-year old stated his affection for the Merseyside club, ”

“I am a supporter of Liverpool. I am a supporter of Real Madrid also. Again, I hope for a great game. But I have to go for the ‘Pool for this one.”

His wishes, however, did not come true as Liverpool lost 1-0 courtesy of a strike from mercurial winger Vinicius Jr. Liverpool fans will arguably have another bitter taste if Liverpool “fan” Conor ends up owning Manchester United.
