Boxing promoter unveils unforgettable Conor McGregor encounter hailing his character and love for Katie Taylor

In February of this year, Eddie Hearn had a meeting with Conor McGregor to explore the possibility of the Irishman’s participation in Katie Taylor’s boxing homecoming.

Their previous encounter was brief, at a Taylor event, where they exchanged greetings. However, Hearn’s recent meeting with McGregor was a remarkable experience for him, as it was his first proper interaction with the charismatic fighter.

“I know everyone’s got their opinion. I always take people how I see them, right? So you hear this, you hear that, you hear this, you hear that. I had [lunch with McGregor] — I don’t know how long it was, an hour-and-a-half, two hours — just the funniest time,” the Matchroom Sports head honcho said Monday on The MMA Hour. “I love great energy, and this guy is just a pure character. It was like being at a press conference.

Their first encounter took place at The Black Forge Inn, McGregor’s restaurant in Dublin. Conor had offered his help on social media after it was announced that Taylor’s long-awaited rematch with Amanda Serrano would not be held at Croke Park Stadium in Dublin.

The fight was later scheduled for May 20 at 3Arena in Dublin, but Serrano pulled out due to an injury in late February. As a replacement, undisputed super-lightweight champion Chantelle Cameron stepped in for the matchup.

Ireland holds Katie Taylor, an Olympic gold medalist and an unbeaten professional boxer who holds the WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO, and The Ring female lightweight titles, in high esteem as a cherished personality.

Although McGregor is preparing for his 2023 comeback fight against Michael Chandler at an undecided event, he is still dedicated to supporting Taylor in achieving her goals, according to Hearn.

Conor may have his hands full with his own engagements. But he is fully committed to assisting the accomplished boxer in any way he can.

“I know that there is an element to everything that everybody does about publicity and exposure. But he has a genuine passion for Katie,” Hearn said. “He loves Katie Taylor. He thinks she’s amazing. She’s a hero in that country And he wanted to help make it happen for her. For Ireland as well. And I’m sure he gets [bad press] because everybody does when they reach those kinds of heights. But I had a great time. I really did.”
