Conor McGregor eyes octagon return by year’s end despite frustration over UFC 306 sphere fight proposal

UFC fans worldwide have been eagerly anticipating the comeback of its biggest superstar. The ‘Notorious’ Conor McGregor last competed in 2021, where he suffered a horrendous leg break against Dustin Poirier. Since then, the Irishman has been longing to return to his primary way of living, which is being a fighter.

McGregor himself has stated his intention to return this year in numerous interviews. However, he also mentioned how a number of complications on the side of the UFC have prevented the company from announcing a return date for McGregor, as we are already reaching the end of March.

Conor McGregor wants no movie, back to octagon by 2024

The Irish MMA superstar finally came back from his long hiatus last year to coach his second season of the Ultimate Fighter alongside popular lightweight Michael Chandler, which pointed to him being McGregor’s next opponent in all likelihood.

Not too long ago, the Irishman publicly announce his return to fighting against Chandler on July 29th, but the rumors were shut down by CEO Dana White, who has also received a ton of criticism over delaying the return of Conor.

McGregor will feature in his first movie as he will star alongside Jake Gyllenhall for ‘The Roadhouse’ which will release on March 21st. But the grand festivities of Hollywood have not stopped him from being dedicated to training and returning to the octagon as soon as he can.

The Irishman has been seen to be growing in frustration in recent interviews as his fight date keeps getting pushed. In one such interview, he talked about how he was being kept “from his way of living” for almost 3 years and how much it affected him.

Although McGregor has been tired of waiting, he is still holding on to his faith and belief in himself and not taking his foot from the pedal any time before he finally puts on the gloves

In a recent interview, McGregor laid out all the plans he has for himself going forward in 2024 and the hurdles he is still facing to get his date announced. He stated “I still have two fights left of my UFC contract and we’re still only in the first quarter of 2024. I’ve got this work load on me right now, the promotion stuff, the movie, I’ve got St.Patricks festivities with the alcohol, but after that it’s a closed door…My plan is gym, home, gym, home, gym, home. I hope we get some clarity on a date and I can push towards it. I’m sure we’ll get something in by the years end.”

Ever since being rejected for a fight in June, the Irishman has also pushed the company to let him fight at UFC 306 on the grand stage in Las Vegas, but his request has apparently fallen on deaf ears.

Mystic Mac explained how there have been “no talks of anything” and the toll it might take on his dedication towards actually returning. He said, “If I’m not getting anything back, it just shreds me off.”

Even after having nothing left to prove, Conor McGregor still feels just as passionate about his craft as he’s ever felt, and the global superstar should be given the respect he deserves for all he’s done for the sport.
