“I’m going to shock the world yet again” Charles Oliveira declares with sky-high confidence wants to reclaim lightweight championship at UFC 280

UFC sensation Charles Oliveira is so confident in himself that he will shock the world if he wins the lightweight belt back at UFC 280 by defeating Islam Makhachev. Oliveira and Makhachev will square off in one of the most anticipated championship bouts in years next weekend in the main event of UFC 280.

Oliveira, technically speaking, does not possess the gold, but he is unquestionably the king as a result of his incredible 11-fight winning streak.

Makhachev, the star from Dagestan, on the contrary, is on a double-digit run of his own, seeking to show once and for all that he is the best lightweight in the world.

However these two outstanding 155-pounders aren’t exactly fierce rivals, they haven’t held back when it comes to throwing trash talk at one another in recent weeks.

This is especially true for Makhachev, who believes that he will walk through the Brazilian.

The undisputed champion will face Makhachev in the main event of UFC 280 on Oct. 22 at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Oliveira enters the fight hoping to recapture the lightweight title he lost to Justin Gaethje in May at UFC 274.

In the main event of UFC 280 on Saturday in Abu Dhabi, the former lightweight champion will battle Khabib Nurmagomedov’s protege Makhachev in an effort to restore the title he believes was stolen from him by the Arizona Athletic Commission. To use Oliveira’s words, he aims to “shock the world once more” by winning the title for the second time.

Oliveira will ‘Shock the World’ at UFC 280?

The 32-year-old Brazilian ‘Do Bronx’ is currently on an 11-fight winning streak, with major victories over Michael Chandler, Dustin Poirier, and Justin Gaethje. Makhachev, on the other hand, will put his 10-fight winning streak on the line for the gold. However, Makhachev has not yet faced a top-five-ranked opponent.

Despite the discrepancy in their records, Oliveira opened as the underdog in the betting for his main event. In an interview, Oliveira declared that he would ‘shock the world’ with a dominant victory over Makhachev.

“No, I don’t think it’s my toughest fight,” Oliveira added. “I’m going to shock the world yet again. I’m going to do that in the first round. Opinions are subjective and some people believe that I would be a potential winner, and he would be a potential winner. But I’m gonna show that my history, my background, and the number of fights I’ve had, my contenders, these will come to show on that very night.

“In this sense, I’ll shock the world because people will change their opinion about this.”

The main event of UFC 280, Oliveira vs. Makhachev, is scheduled for October 22 at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
