Klay Thompson Contract: Warriors owner drops optimistic update on SG’s future with the team

Klay Thompson has recently returned from his Asia tour where he went to China to promote his new series of shoes with the sportswear brand Anta. Now that he has returned from China, there has been some news of Thompson’s future with his current team.

Klay Thompson’s contract with the Golden State Warriors is set to expire after the current NBA season ends. Fans are eager to know whether their beloved shooting guard will remain on the team or set out for a new challenge in his career. The Warriors owner Joe Lacob has finally shed some light on the matter.

Majority Warriors owner Joe Lacob is optimistic about Klay Thompson’s future

The Dubs seem to be planning to keep their core intact as they recently re-signed Draymond Green to a $100 million deal over the summer. The father of the four-time NBA Champion has also stated in the past that Klay would like to be a Warriors player for life. In addition to that “China Klay” had also expressed his desire to win his fifth ring when he was in China.

His desire to achieve that feat looked to be with the Warriors on his mind as he ended his speech with a “Go Warriors!” chant. The Majority owner Joe Lacob is confident that the 33-year-old star will remain with the Dubs for the foreseeable future.

During his interview with The Athletic, Lacob stated, “We’ve had some very brief discussions at this point with his agent. But they’re very, very early. Lacob further added to his statement, “I fully expect that we’ll have some substantial discussions soon sometime and we’ll see if we can’t put something together that allows Klay to be here for a long time.”

Steve Kerr, Klay Thompson’s contracts to expire after the 2023-24 NBA season

It’s not only Klay that the Warriors would need to impress with a good deal as the legendary coach for the Dubs. Steve Kerr will also be out of contract after the 2023-24 season. Kerr has led the Warriors to three NBA championships and is beloved by fans just like Klay Thompson.

It would be interesting to see how Lacob would deal with the situation and try to re-sign Thompson and Kerr if he plans to. Thompson’s father Mychal Thompson has expressed his desire for his sons, Steph, Draymond, and Kevin Looney to stay as Warriors players until the end.

The senior Thompson talked to Mark Medina and in his conversation he said, “For him, Draymond and Steph should never wear another uniform, or should never have to wear another uniform and that also goes for Kevon Looney, too.
